Bali is one of Australia's favourite destinations. It is mainly known for its parties, nightlife, and, of course, the Bintang. It's cheap, reasonably close to international travel from Australia, just 6 hours, and best of all, the weather is always warm and tropical, even when it rains.
There is far more to Bali than the beaches and nightlife. Venture north into Ubud, and you'll be transformed into a lush tropical green oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the world-famous Kuta. Stunning views of terraced green rice paddies combined with colourful markets and the friendly hospitality of the Balinese people.
Ubud is approximately an hour from Denpasar, heading towards the centre of Bali. It is close enough to visit the main tourist areas but far enough away to feel the culture and traditions of a rural Balinese town.
Like all of Bali, Ubud offers a full range of different styles of accommodation, from basic Villas to 5-star hotels and resorts, some with breathtaking views and private infinity pools. Although Ubud is quieter than Kuta, the centre of Ubud still offers a busy and thriving centre with all the shops and restaurants you would expect in other parts of Bali.
Ubud is spoilt with things to see and do, or do nothing and relax in a tropical jungle atmosphere. There are tranquil walks through the rain forest, or for the adrenaline junkies, you've got river rafting and quad bike tours. Alternatively, get to know the locals through tours of coffee plantations, rice paddies, or several stunning temples and palaces close by.
One of the increasingly popular activities you'll see all over Instagram is the famous Bali swings. It's an opportunity to take in the stunning scenery from the confines of a single- and double-seat swing extending out over the terraced rice paddies valley. It's a romance with a touch of fear and adrenaline. Ubud is also home to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in a Hindu temple renowned for the macaque monkeys who call it home.
Ubud is the perfect destination for Honeymooners looking for that balance between relaxation, privacy, and seclusion combined with cultural experiences and fun activities.
On your next Bali trip, think outside the box and consider combining your stay with a few days in Ubud or the entire time in Ubud and rejuvenate the soul.
