5 Essential must-do activities close to Nadi
Visiting Fiji doesn't necessarily mean staying on a stunning tropical island, although that's certainly a great option. Nadi and its nearby areas provide unique and unexpected activities. These experiences are conveniently located just a short drive from the centre of Nadi, eliminating the need for lengthy trips.
This day trip offered an ideal blend of fun, culture, and relaxation. Instead of booking a fixed tour, we hired a driver for the day, which cost approximately $FJ250.00. This was excellent value, as we were picked up from our hotel at the Port of Denarau at 9 am and returned around 5:30 pm in a modern, comfortable vehicle for the four of us. Our driver, Thomas, had no predetermined destinations and didn't restrict the time spent on each activity. His flexibility allowed us to choose activities that interested us. Our day included the following.
Fun at the Sleeping Giant Zipline and relaxing in the cool freshwater river
A cultural visit and experience at Viseisei Village
Visiting the Garden of the Sleeping Giant
Lunch at a small local Cafe
Covered in mud at Sabeto Mud Pool & Hot Spring
Finished with an hour's massage at the Hot Spring
Each activity had a separate cost besides our car hire, depending on your chosen option.
If you like the sound of these experiences, read on without any long-winded, flowery guff.
Sleeping Giant Zip-line
In a word: fantastic. This was definitely the highlight of our day. Zip-lining through the lush green rainforests was an amazing experience. There were about 6-7 different lines that crisscrossed over the forest canopies and the river below. To cap off the adventure, we took a swim in the river. The refreshing, cool mountain water alleviated the heat and humidity of the Fijian climate. It's an excellent way to conclude the zip-lining experience before moving on to your next activity.
Viseisei Village
This experience was humbling. The village, known as the oldest settlement in Fiji, is abundant in culture and island history. You'll have the chance to meet the locals, tour the village, and purchase some handmade crafts. We received a warm welcome and gained a lot of knowledge about Fiji's earliest settlements.
Garden of the Sleeping Giant
The gardens have beautiful expansive grounds with lily ponds, canopy-covered boardwalks, stunning views from the mountain top and over 2000 species of orchids.
Sabeto Mud Pool & Hotspring
To fully experience traditional Fijian culture, visit the mud baths located just a few kilometers from the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. These geothermal springs are a natural phenomenon. You'll coat yourself in mud, let it dry, and then rinse it off in several hot spring pools. We opted to follow this with a soothing massage.
So next time you are in Fiji, get out and look around the Nadi surroundings and explorer an island rich in cultural and history. You wont be dissaointed.
