Walking the streets of Rome can tantalise your taste buds on almost every corner. Known for its sensational food, Rome is a foodie heaven.
Picking the best restaurant is although impossible. That's a fact. Just like art, food is subjective and what's good for some, may not be as good for others.
When in Rome (pardon the pun) you want to experience an authentic restaurant with a long history. Make no mistake, searching the endless guidebooks and reviews to find the perfect restaurant is difficult.
We stumbled upon La Francescana Restaurant while walking around the Castel Sant'Angelo area. It was lunchtime and we decided to take a look inside. My first impressions were like hundreds of other restaurants, it was nice. I was although quickly drawn to the large barrels serving homemade wine. Seated outside, we read the history of the restaurant on the menu. The restaurant has been in the same family for generations. It was also clear that the locals gave this place a tick of approval as people were coming and going to pick up the office lunch orders.
I spoke to the very lovely Alessandra who is the Granddaughter of the original owner Dino. As the menu says;
"Everything that happens here is the result of nearly ninety years of
commitment, passion and the constant quest for quality"
This restaurant is well worth a visit for a true authentic Italy on a plate. From the food, wine and service. Outstanding.
