If you were not aware, Italy has one of the best rail networks in the world. Both from city to city high-speed rail and local networks.
Here's an 8 min video from YouTuber "Just Not Bikes" discussing the benefits of rail over flying. I absolutely agree. Having myself used the Italian rail network from Venice to Florence to Rome to Naples to Sorrento and then back to Rome and out to the airport.
Not only is train travel cheaper, but it's more convenient. Think about the time it takes you to check-in before your flight, collecting your bags from the carousel, and then the transport from the airport into the city. Train travel in Italy is literally walk on, walk off in each city and it's more comfortable than flights.
