We sometimes look to stay in a hotel close to the airport for a night or two before we depart from an international airport. The reason is clear and understandable. We all want minimal fuss and stress getting to the airport for international departures.
When in Rome, pardon the pun, you have some great options. Yes, if you feel more comfortable staying close to Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport at one of the many hotels such as the Hilton Rome Hotel or the Best Western Rome Hotel Airport with the airport at your doorstep, that is fine, you have plenty of options.
If you want to enjoy the city of Rome longer for a visit to the theatre or night tour or just want one last stroll through the streets and enjoy the sights before you leave. There is a hassle-free option getting from the city centre, Roma Termini (Train Station) to Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport.
The Leonardo Express is an airport shuttle train dedicated to and from the city centre right into the airport terminals. Leonardo Express trains leave approximately every 15 minutes and operate between 6.40 am and 11.40 pm and take roughly about 32 mins. It's quick and comfortable. This is not your standard train carriage. These carriages have vastly more spacious and clearly designed for comfort and luggage.
It's a quick and comfortable airport shuttle option costing about €14 euros.
So, if you want to maximise your time in Rome, without staying at the airport or stressing about transfers, then the Leonardo Express is a great option.
